The reality of unsafe abortion

Nearly 22 million women and girls resort to unsafe abortion each year in a desperate attempt to end their unintended pregnancies. Some, like Dina live to tell their stories. Many others do not.

Dina Appiah is 27 years old and is living with her parents and four children in Accra, Ghana. Like many parents across the world, Dina begins her day by getting her children ready for school and herself ready to go to work as a security guard in the city. 

Just like many women across the world – due to lack of accessible family planning information and services – Dina has, more than once, risked her life in order to take control of and plan her life.
