Zoom-in! Zoom-in! is a creative photographic project that encourages young people to take an active interest in Sexual and reproductive Health and Rights as a global issue.
The aim of Zoom-in! is to get young people to think about themselves - which they love doing - but at the same time think about and respond to young people like themselves, but who live in the developing world and may be less fortunate.
This project is funded by the European Union. The project The initial participatory project was carried out by Marie Stopes International Australia with young indigenous Australians to help them understand their sexual health needs and to design services to meet those needs.
The project was then expanded much wider and we worked with other NGOs and young people from Bangladesh, China, Mexico, Pakistan, Uganda, Viet Nam, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The young participants were introduced to the project, invited to workshops to discuss sexual health issues and given disposable cameras to express their concerns. We have been extremely impressed by the quality of the images and especially by the honesty and openness of many of the stories.
Education pack
We wanted as many young people as possible to benefit from the project. So we have created a Zoom-in! education pack for teachers and youth facilitators to help young people understand developing world and sexual health issues through self expression. It is not a sex education project. But, it is designed to tap into young people’s developing sexual awareness and how they relate that to their peers.
Visit our
Zoom-in! Education pack page for full details of how to make use of the Zoom-in! materials.
The photos and stories The young people who took part in the project produced some remarkable and deeply moving work. We’ve added a few examples of the stories and images and added them to this site.
