Marie Stopes International Chief Executive, Dana Hovig was in Berlin at the European press launch in advance of the first ever World Contraception Day (26 September). Almost 200 European journalists attended the launch.
World Contraception Day is the first ever international awareness campaign aiming to reduce the high levels of unintended pregnancy that occur every year, through awareness raising, information and education. Marie Stopes International was the only global NGO partner in a consortium put together by Beyer Schering Pharma AG, the German pharmaceutical giant. Others involved included the European Society of Contraception, Centro Latinamerico Slud de la Mujer, the International Federation of Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology and the Asia Pacific Council on Contraception.
Dana shared a platform with Hollywood actress Mischa Barton, who was the campaign’s official ambassador. Almost 200 European journalists attended the launch.
