Cottoning on to contraception

Cotton producers have emerged as unlikely allies in our efforts to reduce resistance to contraception in Burkina Faso.

In Burkina Faso, 2,800 women die each year from complications during pregnancy and childbirth and just 15% of married women use a modern contraceptive method.

The needs are huge, but so too is stigma and resistance to contraception, which makes getting the message across challenging. However, Marie Stopes Burkina Faso has found an innovative way to make contraceptive access a reality.
